JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South African new vehicle sales decreased by 23.4 percent to 39,533 units in May compared to the same month last year, the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers (NAAMSA) said on Tuesday. NAAMSA attributed the sharp decline to public holidays at the start of the month, price increases over a broad range of vehicles and violence against foreigners that rocked parts of the country. Including sales from Associated Motor Holdings, total sales were 43,214 vehicles in May compared to 57,283 last year. |
