S.Africa union ends strike in pharma, chemicals sector

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa's CEPPWAWU labour union said on Wednesday it had called off a more than a week-long strike in the pharmaceuticals, chemicals and paper sectors after agreeing a pay rise with employers.

The Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) called on all its members, who have been striking since July 20, to return to work after by Friday.

The union agreed a wage settlement of between 9 and 10 percent with employers.

"After broader consultations with our members, we have unanimously agreed to call off the strike that has been going on," the union said in a statement.
